about

criticismism was an art blog. Between 2009 and 2017 it published original thoughts about works of contemporary art. Author Mark Sheerin also wrote for Hyperallergic, the Arts Desk and Culture24.

criticismism II is a whole new art blog, with a focus on prehistoric parietal art. Or, to be precise, the representations of cave painting which have circulated above ground since their rediscovery.

Please check in here to find interesting ideas (I hope) about the ways in which we mediate the origins of art, and of humanity. I am pursuing doctoral research on this topic at the University of Sussex.

  1. Dear Mr. Sheerin,

Thanks for a very cool blog! I’m really a musician myself, first and foremost at least, but I’m releasing this vinyl album together with an artist and I thought it might interest your readers.

Idea is really to merge the two art forms and create a product that is as much music album as piece of art – something both at home in the vinyl player as well as on the wall.

Please drop me a line if you fancy hearing more about it. I’ve also put a video taster and some info on our website (http://www.artmusic.one) if you fancy having a look.

    Many thanks,

    Nils Klöfver

  2. Hi Mark,
I came across your Criticism ll article post on ‘celebration ‘ by Chaimowicz , and I came across that from this excellent book called The Artists’s House by Kirsty Bell, and see you have been writing a blog/reviews etc for a while. I’m currently doing my MA and this module involves me asking another person to write a statement About me as an artist, you up for it? I’m including my website below but it’s currently in progress , which is agony. As my practice is social engagement from an unorthodox approach I thought I’d apply it here. Looking forward to hearing from you.
